The second painting in the series shows how the animals resign themselves to their fate. While the animals of course are greatly disturbed by the lion’s aggression, they accept their destiny and come up with a plan in which they make a pact with the lion: whereby the animals will sacrifice themselves, one by one, so that the lion will not attack them all at once.
