This is one of my earlier paintings that I did during my
college years in Pakistan. My mother discovered the dead salamander, the main
inspiration behind the painting, in her shoe! I proceeded to quickly try and
capture its essence on paper, as it had started to be inflicted by the
natural process of decay, in effect giving off a most unpleasant odour. I
have tried to give the poor dead salamander a semblance of life in the
panting, by placing it in what would be its more natural habitat, on a
thriving branch of vine. Though the border is more reminiscent of its present
and future state, as it depicts multiple skeletal images. |
